Comparison of Stent Geometry Achieved by Different Side-Branch Ballooning Techniques For Bifurcation Provisional Stenting
- Randomised controlled trial
- single-centre
- prospective
- 1:1
Authors' conclusion
The results of the present randomized trial show that during stepwise provisional stenting in left main or large bifurcations, the PKP ballooning sequence is associated with better stent configuration compared with the PSP.
Study context
- Population
- Patients undergoing stepwise provisional stenting PCI of left main or large (side branch (SB) diameter >2.75 mm) coronary bifurcations
- Participants
- 60 patients
- Comparison
- PKP vs PSP side-branch ballooning after main vessel (MV) stenting
- PKPn = 30
- PSPn = 30reference
- Primary endpoint
- Minimum stent expansion at the distal MV segment (OCT)
- Follow-up
- Postintervention
Primary result
As reported in the abstract
Minimum stent expansion, distal MV segment
P < 0.001
Further findings
Malapposition (bifurcation core, distal MV) and SB scaffolding
- Higher rate of malapposition in the bifurcation core and distal MV with PSP
- Improved SB scaffolding with PKP
Stent eccentricity
- No significant differences between PSP and PKP in all segments analysed
