Authors' conclusion

Although the recruitment process likely led to a selection of patients with lower risk AM, 8% experienced in-hospital complications, the major prognosis factor being severity criteria upon admission.

Study context

Population
Hospitalised patients with CMR-confirmed acute myocarditis admitted to cardiology, France, May 2016–February 2019; ICU admissions and deaths before CMR excluded
Participants
803 consecutive patients
Exposure
Severity criteria at admission vs none
  • Severity criterian = 112
Outcome
In-hospital complications (composite of death, LVEF ≤40%, sustained ventricular or supraventricular arrhythmia, cardiogenic shock, need for mechanical circulatory support, inotropes, temporary pacing, pacemaker or ICD implantation)
Follow-up
In-hospital
