Coronary Plaque Burden in South Asian Adults

JACC AdvPublished

  • medical record-based multicenter registry

Authors' conclusion

In this SA cohort, higher PREVENT and ASCVD/PCE risk categories were associated with higher plaque burden. CTA reveals substantial noncalcified plaque missed by calcium scoring, underscoring its value for anatomic risk in SA adults.

Study context

Population
South Asian adults (≥18 years) within Baylor Scott & White Health system who underwent clinically indicated coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA)South Asian (SAs) included
Participants
341 adults
Exposure
plaque burden across risk categories using the PREVENT-ASCVD and Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE) risk scores

Main finding

As reported in the abstract

Median total plaque volume by PREVENT risk category

Observational data: associations, not effects.

Further findings

Median total plaque volume by PCE risk category

  • Median total plaque volume by PCE risk category: P < 0.0001
