Dynamic Change of Coronary Artery Geometry After Bioadaptor Implantation: A Single-blind Randomized Controlled Trial
- Single-blind Randomized Controlled Trial
- vessel segments randomized
Authors' conclusion
The novel bioadaptor technology demonstrated favorable restoration of 3-dimensional dynamic geometry of the treated vessel segment 12 months after implantation, in comparison with traditional DES. These initial mechanistic findings suggest a potential explanation for the favorable clinical outcomes observed in prior trials, and our analytical approach may offer new insights to guide future vascular implant designs and evaluations.
Study context
- Population
- Patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, with coronary computed tomography angiography at 1 and 12 months post-implantationvessel segments in 48 patients randomized
- Participants
- 48 patients
- Comparison
- bioadaptor vs DES
- bioadaptorn = 24
- DESn = 24
- Primary endpoint
- Change in dynamic vessel geometry (curvature flexibility, torsion flexibility, path flexibility) of the treated segment during the cardiac cycle
- Follow-up
- 1 to 12 months
Primary result
As reported in the abstract
- Torsion flexibility: significant within-group improvement from 1 to 12 months with bioadaptor; no significant change with DES
- Curvature and path flexibility increased numerically with bioadaptor; within-group differences not statistically significant
- Between-group: increase in path flexibility significantly greater with the bioadaptor than with DES
- within-group paired analyses
