Ethnic differences in blood pressure levels over time: the HELIUS study
- Prospective cohort study
- multi-ethnic population-based cohort
Authors' conclusion
Our findings indicate a further increase of ethnic differences in SBP among Ghanaian, Moroccan, and Turkish populations compared with the Dutch reference population that are in part attributable to differences in BMI.
Study context
- Population
- Multi-ethnic population-based cohort in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (HELIUS); baseline 2011–2015, follow-up 2019–202110,170 with complete follow-up
- Participants
- 22,109 participants
- Exposure
- Ethnic minority groups vs Dutch reference population
- Outcome
- Ethnic differences in SBP over time (linear mixed models adjusted for age, sex and antihypertensive medication)
- Follow-up
- Mean 6.3 (1.1) years
