Heart failure & cardiomyopathies
Finerenone in Patients with Severe Heart Failure: The FINEARTS-HF Trial
Authors' conclusion
Among patients with mildly reduced or preserved LVEF, severe HF was associated with a heightened risk of CV events. Treatment with finerenone appeared safe and effective, regardless of HF severity.
Study context
- Population
- Patients with heart failure (HF) and mildly reduced or preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in FINEARTS-HF888 (14.8%) with severe HF
- Comparison
- Finerenone vs placebo, by severe HF status
- Severe HFn = 888
- Primary endpoint
- Total (first and recurrent) HF events and cardiovascular (CV) death
- Follow-up
- Median 2.7 years
Methodological detailssubgroup analysis by severe HF status
- Subgroup analysis by severe HF status
Primary result
As reported in the abstract
Total HF events and CV death, by severe HF status
| Group | Value | Absolute rate reduction with finerenone |
|---|---|---|
| Severe HF | 31.6 per 100 patient-years | 5.9 per 100py |
| Without severe HF | 13.9 per 100py | 2.2 per 100py |
Value
Severe HF31.6 per 100 patient-years
Without severe HF13.9 per 100py
Absolute rate reduction with finerenone
Severe HF5.9 per 100py
Without severe HF2.2 per 100py
- Finerenone beneficial in reducing the primary endpoint regardless of severe HF status
- P for interaction = 0.98
Safety
Treatment discontinuation or adverse events
- Similar by treatment assignment regardless of severe HF status
