Authors' conclusion

Bailout GP IIb/IIIa inhibition in AMI patients with angiographic MVO failed to reduce the primary endpoint infarct size but decreased CMR-derived MVO and led to an increase in non-fatal bleeding events.

Study context

Population
Patients with acute MI and TIMI flow grade ≤ 2 (angiographic microvascular obstruction (MVO)) after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
Participants
120 patients
Comparison
Glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa inhibitor vs no GP IIb/IIIa inhibitor
  • GP IIb/IIIa inhibitorn = 62
Primary endpoint
Infarct size (% of left ventricular (LV) mass) by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)
