High-sensitivity cardiac troponin I for enhanced risk stratification in primary prevention for sudden cardiac death in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Heart RhythmPublished

  • cohort study
  • consecutively enrolled

Authors' conclusion

The hs-cTnI could be an independent predictor of SCD risk for patients with HCM. Integrating hs-cTnI into SCD risk assessment may provide additional indication of ICD implantation for primary prevention.

Study context

Population
Patients with confirmed diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)final analysis, 705 enrolled
Participants
559 patients
Exposure
High-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) added to the conventional risk score model vs the conventional risk score model
Outcome
SCD or SCD-equivalent events including witnessed arrhythmic cardiac arrest and sustained ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation requiring intervention
Follow-up
Mean 862 days

Main finding

As reported in the abstract

Patients experiencing SCD events

51 patients (9.1%)

Observational data: associations, not effects.

Further findings
