Secondary analysis
Impact of Anaemia and Iron Deficiency on Outcomes in Cardiogenic Shock Complicating Acute Myocardial Infarction
- Secondary analysis of the CULPRIT-SHOCK randomised trial
Authors' conclusion
Concomitant anaemia without ID presence in patients with CS at hospital presentation is associated with higher risk for death from any cause or renal replacement therapy and the individual components of this composite endpoint within 30 days after hospitalization. ID has no relevant impact on clinical outcomes in patients with CS.
Study context
- Population
- Patients with cardiogenic shock complicating acute MI; anaemia = haemoglobin <13 g/dl (men), <12 g/dl (women); Iron deficiency (ID) = ferritin <100 ng/ml or transferrin saturation <20%
- Participants
- 427 patients
- Comparison
- Anaemia and/or iron deficiency vs neither
- Neither anaemia nor IDn = 208reference
- Anaemia without IDn = 93
- Anaemia with IDn = 54
- ID without anaemian = 72
- Primary endpoint
- All-cause death or renal replacement therapy
- Follow-up
- 30 days
