LDL-C Reduction With Lipid-Lowering Therapy for Primary Prevention of Major Vascular Events Among Older Individuals
- Cohort study
- Danish nationwide
Authors' conclusion
Our study supports a relative clinical benefit of lowering LDL cholesterol for primary prevention of major vascular events in individuals aged ≥70 years similarly as in individuals aged <70 years.
Study context
- Population
- Individuals aged ≥50 years initiating lipid-lowering therapy 2008–2017, without atherosclerotic CVD, with baseline and within-1-year LDL-C measurement
- Participants
- 16,035 vs 49,155
- Exposure
- Older vs Younger
- Oldern = 16,035
- Youngern = 49,155reference
- Outcome
- Major vascular events, HR per 1 mmol/L LDL-C reduction
Main finding
As reported in the abstract
Major vascular events per 1 mmol/L LDL-C reduction
| Group | HR per 1 mmol/L LDL-C reduction (95% CI 0.71-0.83) | HR per 1 mmol/L LDL-C reduction (95% CI 0.71-0.80) |
|---|---|---|
| Older | 0.77 | |
| Younger | 0.76 |
- Older vs Younger: P for difference = 0.79
Observational data: associations, not effects.
