Longitudinal Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Heart Failure: An Individual Patient Data Pooling Analysis of Clinical Trials

Eur J Heart FailPublished

  • Individual patient data pooled analysis of clinical trials
  • time-dependent blood pressure (BP)
  • multivariate Cox regression

Authors' conclusion

The relationship between BP and HF outcomes is non-linear and closely tied to left ventricular ejection fraction. Low SBP consistently predicts a poor prognosis, whereas high SBP is associated with an increased risk in HFmrEF and HFpEF but not in HFrEF.

Study context

Population
Patients with HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), HFmrEF or HFpEF in 8 clinical trials
Participants
28,406 patients · 8 trials
Comparison
Low and high systolic BP (SBP) vs middle SBP
Outcome
Time to first CV death or heart failure (HF) hospitalization
