Myocardial Flow Assessment After Heart Transplantation Using Dynamic Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography With 201 Tl and 99m Tc Tracers and Validated by 13 N-NH 3 Positron Emission Tomography

Circ Cardiovasc ImagingPublished Diagnostic accuracy study

Authors' conclusion

This small study suggests that CZT SPECT using 201Tl and 99mTc tracers showed comparable MBF and MFR, and the results correlated well with those of 13 N-NH3 PET.

Study context

Population
Patients with prior heart transplantation undergoing cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and 13 N-NH3 positron emission tomography (PET) dynamic scans; Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) assessment
Participants
38 patients
Comparison
Dynamic CZT SPECT with 201Tl or 99mTc tracers vs 13 N-NH3 PET for myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) quantification
  • 99mTcn = 19
Outcome
Diagnostic performance for CAV (MBF and MFR quantification), validated by 13 N-NH3 PET

Correlation of CZT SPECT vs PET for stress MBF

No significant difference between cohorts in correlation coefficients for other MBF and MFR values

Detection of angiographically defined moderate-to-severe CAV

CZT SPECT comparable to 13 N-NH3 PET
