Coronary disease & ACSCohort study
Outcomes in the BETAMI-DANBLOCK trial compared with a Norwegian nationwide myocardial infarction population
- Comparative cohort study (trial representativeness and transportability analysis)
- registry comparison
Authors' conclusion
Compared with the NORMI cohort, participants in BETAMI and DANBLOCK were younger, had a lower proportion of certain comorbidities, and experienced a lower risk of all-cause mortality and MI. Despite these differences, the effect of beta-blockers remained consistent when the trial population was weighted according to the NORMI cohort.
Study context
- Population
- Myocardial infarction (MI) patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥40% and no HF
- Participants
- 20,804 / 2,867 / 2,707
- Exposure
- BETAMI and DANBLOCK trial participants vs NORMI registry cohort
- NORMIn = 20,804reference
- BETAMIn = 2,867
- DANBLOCKn = 2,707
- Outcome
- Absolute risk of all-cause mortality or MI
- Follow-up
- 3 years
Main finding
As reported in the abstract
All-cause mortality or MI · 3-year follow-up
Observational data: associations, not effects.
Further findings
MI · 3-year follow-up
| Outcome | NORMI | BETAMI | DANBLOCK |
|---|---|---|---|
| Age | Median 66 (IQR 57–74) years | Not reported in the abstract | Not reported in the abstract |
- Age: BETAMI and DANBLOCK Median 63 (IQR 55–70) years
Baseline comorbidities
- NORMI had higher prevalence of DM, previous CAD and LVEF 40-49% vs trial participants
Beta-blocker treatment effect, transportability analysis
- Treatment effects of beta-blockers similar when trial population weighted to NORMI characteristics
