Heart failure & cardiomyopathies
Patient-Centered Outcomes in Heart Failure Pharmacotherapy: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Authors' conclusion
IV iron and GLP1 agonists or GLP1/GIP agonists improved both QOL and exercise capacity in patients with HF. SGLT2 inhibitors significantly improved QOL but had no significant effect on exercise capacity.
Study context
- Population
- Ambulatory patients with chronic heart failure (HF)
- Comparison
- HF pharmacotherapies vs placebo or active control
- Outcome
- Coprimary: KCCQ score (quality of life (QOL)) and 6MWD (exercise capacity)
Pooled result
As reported in the abstract
KCCQ score and 6MWD
- KCCQ score significantly improved vs placebo with intravenous (IV) iron, SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP1 or GLP1/GIP agonists
- No significant difference in KCCQ score for mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA), angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitors (ARNI), vericiguat or ivabradine vs placebo or active control
- 6MWD significantly improved vs placebo with GLP1 or GLP1/GIP agonists and IV iron
- No significant difference in 6MWD for SGLT2 inhibitors, ARNI, beta-blocker, MRA or ivabradine vs placebo or active control
