Authors' conclusion

One-year echocardiographic outcomes from the TRISCEND II trial demonstrated that near elimination of TR following TTVR is associated with reduced venous congestion, RV reverse remodeling, and significant improvements in forward stroke volume and cardiac output.

Study context

Population
Patients with severe, symptomatic tricuspid regurgitation
Participants
400 patients
Comparison
Transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) vs medical therapy
  • TTVRn = 267
  • Controln = 133reference
Primary endpoint
Reduction in TR severity from baseline (secondary echocardiographic endpoint of the trial)
Follow-up
Discharge

Primary result

As reported in the abstract

Mild TR at discharge

TTVR

95.5%

Further findings

Mild TR (paired analysis, baseline to 1 year)

Mean inferior vena cava diameter · baseline to 1 year

Decreased significantly more with TTVR, normal breathing
P < 0.001
Decreased significantly more with TTVR, forced inhalation
P = 0.038

Right ventricular (RV) size and function · baseline to 1 year

Greater improvement in diastolic RV size with TTVR
P < 0.05
Larger decrease in RV systolic function with TTVR, consistent with reduced preload
P < 0.001

RV stroke volume and cardiac output

Increased significantly with TTVR, not in control
P < 0.001
