Authors' conclusion

Our study indicates a poor correlation between reduction in 99mTc-DPD uptake at follow-up and numerous established biomarkers of ATTR-CM treatment response.

Study context

Population
ATTR-CM patients at the UK National Amyloidosis Centre receiving amyloid-specific disease-modifying therapy (DMT) with pre- and post-treatment 99mTc-DPD SPECT-CT scans
Participants
66 patients
Outcome
Change in myocardial percentage injected dose (PID) on 99mTc-DPD scintigraphy vs change in validated biomarkers of disease severity

Main finding

As reported in the abstract

Change in myocardial PID on 99mTc-DPD scintigraphy · median 27.5 months (Q1-Q3: 21.9-33.1 months) between scans

Mean reduction from pre-DMT myocardial percentage injected dose (PID)

1.5 ± 1.5%

Discordance: improvement on follow-up 99mTc-DPD despite disease progression

28/66 patients (42.4%)

Observational data: associations, not effects.
