Vasovagal Responses to Human Monomorphic Ventricular Tachycardia

J Am Coll CardiolPublished

  • Retrospective cohort study with prospective cohort
  • retrospective analysis

Authors' conclusion

Nearly one-half of VT episodes are associated with failure to augment SR, indicative of an under-recognized pathophysiological vasovagal response to VT. Inappropriate SR responses were more predictive of hemodynamic instability than VT rate and ejection fraction.

Study context

Population
Patients undergoing scar-related ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation
Participants
150 patients · 261 VT episodes
Exposure
Sinus rate responses during VT; atropine in prospective cohort

Main finding

As reported in the abstract

Difference between groups
P < 0.001
Sinus rate (SR) response: sympathetic
52%
SR response: unchanged
31%
SR response: vagal
17%

Observational data: associations, not effects.
