Women with persistent atrial fibrillation need more than pulmonary vein isolation: personalised extra-pulmonary vein ablation strategy vs. pulmonary vein isolation alone in the TAILORED-AF trial

EuropacePublished

  • Secondary analysis of the TAILORED-AF randomised trial
  • sex-specific subgroup analysis

Authors' conclusion

Compared to men, PVI-only in women with persistent AF leads to a significantly lower freedom from atrial arrhythmia. A personalised spatio-temporal dispersion-targeted ablation strategy led to a higher rate of freedom from any atrial arrhythmia than standard PVI after a single procedure in women and comparable outcomes between women and men.

Study context

Population
Patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) in TAILORED-AF; women (21%) vs men21% female

Comparison
Artificial intelligence (AI)-guided tailored ablation vs pulmonary vein isolation (PVI)-only in women with persistent AF
Primary endpoint
Single-procedure freedom from AF and from any atrial arrhythmia, women vs men
