Comparison of Stent Geometry Achieved by Different Side-Branch Ballooning Techniques For Bifurcation Provisional Stenting: The CRABBIS Trial

JACC Cardiovasc IntervPublished Randomised controlled trial

Authors' conclusion

The results of the present randomized trial show that during stepwise provisional stenting in left main or large bifurcations, the PKP ballooning sequence is associated with better stent configuration compared with the PSP.

Study context

Population
Patients undergoing stepwise provisional stenting PCI of left main or large (side branch (SB) diameter >2.75 mm) coronary bifurcations
Participants
60 patients
Comparison
PKP vs PSP side-branch ballooning after main vessel (MV) stenting
  • PKPn = 30
  • PSPn = 30reference
Primary endpoint
Minimum stent expansion at the distal MV segment (OCT)
Follow-up
Postintervention
Methodological detailssingle-centre, prospective, 1:1
  • Single-centre
  • Prospective
  • 1:1

Primary result

As reported in the abstract

Minimum stent expansion, distal MV segment

P < 0.001

Further findings

Malapposition (bifurcation core, distal MV) and SB scaffolding

Higher rate of malapposition in the bifurcation core and distal MV with PSP
Improved SB scaffolding with PKP

Stent eccentricity

No significant differences between PSP and PKP in all segments analysed
