Arrhythmias & electrophysiology

Electrophysiological characteristics and ablation of ventricular arrhythmias originating from the intramural basal inferior septum

EuropacePublished Retrospective cohort study

Authors' conclusion

Intramural VAs were relatively common in the BIS region in our series. Intra-procedural mapping was important to distinguish the intramural VAs from other VAs by comparing the local activation time and pacing mapping. Procedural success could be achieved by stepwise ablation on the counterpart sides of the BIS and within the MCV.

Study context

Population
Patients undergoing catheter ablation of ventricular arrhythmia (VAs) from the basal inferior septum (BIS)
Participants
55 patients
Exposure
Intramural vs LV-BIS vs RV-BIS origin of VA
  • LV-BISn = 28
  • RV-BISn = 8
  • Intran = 19
Outcome
Earliest activation time in Intra group at two-sided BIS and MCV
Methodological detailsconsecutive patients
  • Consecutive patients

Main finding

As reported in the abstract

Intra: earliest activation time, right BIS (mean ± SD)
7.79 ± 2.38 ms
Intra: earliest activation time, left BIS (mean ± SD)
7.16 ± 2.59 ms
Intra: earliest activation time, middle cardiac vein (MCV) (mean ± SD)
6.26 ± 1.73 ms
Right vs left vs MCV
P = 0.173
