Authors' conclusion

Among patients with AMI undergoing PCI who were at high risk for heart failure, SGLT2 inhibitor use did not reduce infarct size or facilitate reverse LV remodeling at 6 months as assessed by CMR.

Study context

Population
Patients ≥18 years with AMI at high risk for HF after successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)169 (84.0%) with 6-month CMR
Participants
200 patients
Comparison
Empagliflozin 10 mg once daily vs no SGLT2 inhibitor
  • SGLT2 inhibitorn = 100
  • Controln = 100reference
Primary endpoint
Infarct size (% LV mass) by CMR; coprimary: ΔLV end-systolic volume by CMR between baseline and 6 months
Follow-up
6 months

Primary result

As reported in the abstract

GroupInfarct size (% LV mass)ΔLV end-systolic volume
SGLT2 inhibitor12.5% [8.5%-20.9%]−3.3% [−19.7% to 13.6%]
Control12.9% [5.0%-20.7%]−6.8% [−23.4% to 10.6%]
  • SGLT2 inhibitor vs Control: P = 0.92 — infarct size
  • SGLT2 inhibitor vs Control: P = 0.40 — ΔLV end-systolic volume (coprimary)
