Targeted therapy with a localised abluminal groove, low-dose sirolimus-eluting, biodegradable-polymer coronary stent - five-year results of the TARGET All Comers randomised clinical trial

EuroInterventionPublished Randomised controlled trial

Authors' conclusion

In an all-comers population requiring stent implantation for myocardial ischaemia, the BP-SES was non-inferior to the DP-EES for the primary endpoint of TLF at 12 months, and results were sustained at 5 years, confirming the long-term safety and efficacy of the FIREHAWK BP-SES.

Study context

Population
All-comers patients referred for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), 10 European countries93.8% completed 5-year follow-up or deceased
Participants
1,653 patients
Comparison
Biodegradable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stent (BP-SES) vs durable-polymer everolimus-eluting stent (DP-EES)
Primary endpoint
TLF (cardiac death, target vessel MI or ischaemia-driven target lesion revascularisation)
Follow-up
5 years (final outcomes; primary analysis at 12 months)
Methodological detailsmulticentre, prospective, stratified by centre and ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) presentation, Enrolment December 2015 to October 2016

Primary result

As reported in the abstract

TLF · 5 years

P = 0.68

Secondary outcomes

POCE (all-cause death, all MI or any revascularisation) · 5 years

P = 0.58

Any revascularisation (most common POCE component) · 5 years · less than one-third ischaemia-driven target lesion-related

Target lesion failure (TLF) and patient-oriented composite events (POCE), landmark analysis 1 to 5 years

No differences between groups; consistent across all subgroups
