Heart failure & cardiomyopathies
Corticosteroid Burst Therapy in Patients with Acute Heart Failure: Design of the CORTAHF Pilot Study
Study context
- Population
- Patients with acute heart failure (HF) aged 18–85, regardless of EF, with NT-proBNP > 1500 pg/mL and C-reactive protein (CRP) > 20 mg/L, without haemodynamic instability or symptoms and signs of infection, screened within 12 h of presentationplanned enrolment
- Participants
- 100 patients
- Planned comparison
- Prednisone 40 mg daily for 7 days vs standard care
- Primary endpoint
- Change in CRP level (mixed model for repeated measures (MMRM) including all measured timepoints, in patients without a major protocol violation)
- Follow-up
- Baseline to day 7
Methodological detailsdesign paper of an ongoing pilot study, stratified by centre, 1:1, central randomization, Assessments at day 2, day 4 or discharge if earlier, days 7 and 31 in hospital, and day 91 by telephone
