Nonlinear relationship and predictive value of systemic immune-inflammation index for atrial fibrillation recurrence after catheter ablation in hypertensive patients

Heart RhythmPublished retrospective cohort study

Authors' conclusion

SII is a valuable marker for predicting AF recurrence postablation in hypertensive patients. It supports inflammation-based risk assessments and should be considered in clinical risk stratification. Further research is needed to explore inflammation-targeted therapies.

Study context

Population
Hypertensive patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent catheter ablation between January 2019 and January 2023
Participants
418 patients
Exposure
Predictive performance of SII compared with that of C-reactive protein (CRP) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) for AF recurrence after catheter ablation
Outcome
AF recurrence

Main finding

As reported in the abstract

AF recurrence occurred

17.94%

Observational data: associations, not effects.

Further findings

  • SII as independent predictor of recurrence: per-unit estimate; higher SII associated with higher risk of recurrence

Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis of SII and recurrence

Sensitivity analyses

Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of SII across subgroups
