Clinical Characteristics and Prognosis of Patients with Isolated Cardiac Sarcoidosis: Insights from the ILLUMINATE-CS Study

Eur J Heart FailPublished Secondary analysis of the ILLUMINATE-CS registry

Authors' conclusion

Patients with iCS had more impaired cardiovascular function at the time of diagnosis than those with sCS. However, iCS was not independently associated with poor prognosis after adjustment for prognostic factors.

Study context

Population
Patients with cardiac sarcoidosis diagnosed by the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS) guidelines
Participants
475 patients
Comparison
Isolated cardiac sarcoidosis vs systemic cardiac sarcoidosis
  • Isolated cardiac sarcoidosis (iCS)n = 119
Primary endpoint
All-cause death, HF hospitalisation or fatal ventricular arrhythmia events
Follow-up
Median 42.3 (IQR 22.8-72.5) months
Methodological detailsmulticentre, retrospective registry
  • Multicentre
  • Retrospective registry

Primary result

As reported in the abstract

Further findings

Baseline characteristics

iCS had higher prevalence of prior AF or HF hospitalisation, or lower LVEF, than systemic cardiac sarcoidosis (sCS)
