Staging of Cardiac Adverse Remodeling in Moderate or Severe Aortic Regurgitation
- Prospective cohort study
Authors' conclusion
A cardiac remodeling staging system incorporating CMR findings provides incremental prognostication in AR after adjusting for surgical risk, AVR, and regurgitation severity. Right heart remodeling in AR was associated with the highest mortality.
Study context
- Population
- Patients with moderate or severe aortic regurgitation (AR) by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) (DEBAKEY-CMR, 2009–2020), excluding primary cardiomyopathy or prior valve intervention
- Participants
- 395 patients
- Exposure
- Cardiac remodeling stages 1–3 vs stage 0
- Stage 0n = 32reference
- Stage 1n = 146
- Stage 2n = 77
- Stage 3n = 140
- Outcome
- All-cause mortality
- Follow-up
- Mean 3.9 ± 2.9 years
